Hi, I’m Corinne-aka The Ragmaiden…
I’ve been sewing for over 25 years, starting out in my mum’s craft studio when I was about 8. Before I even knew how to sew properly, I was making clothes for my dolls and myself. And when I finally learned, I was hooked!
In 2007, while living in Far North Queensland, I began experimenting with upcycling garments from local op shops, alongside sewing for friends and small businesses…..
Sewing like the earth depends on it for over 25 years…
I spent around 15 years designing and making my own designs, selling at markets from Port Douglas down to the Northern Rivers, where I pursued my childhood dream of being an ‘Anti-Fashion Designer’.
Over time, I realised that creating new clothing, even sustainably, no longer aligned with my values. I shifted my focus to caring for the clothes already in circulation, and helping others do the same.
Today, through Ragmaiden Repairs, I specialise in clothing repair; creative mending, alterations and workshops… helping people reconnect with and extend the life of what they already own.
The Legend of The Ragmaiden
The name Ragmaiden comes from a gorgeous folktale of a woman who gathered worn and discarded fabrics from the local villagers, and wove them together into something useful and whole again.
That story has stayed with me. It sits at the heart of my work, caring for what already exists and helping it find new life.
